Viva’s Beer Crate Moment
Venue: The Lab @ Theatre Royal Plymouth
Running time: 45 minutes

It’s 1977. Punk has exploded across the country – nowhere more than in Cornwall, with gigs by the Ramones, Sex Pistols, Damned, Generation X and more.
Energised by the new sound, Viva Hamnell has formed a band. But hang on, she’s 45, she’s a mum, she’s a school lollipop lady… and she couldn’t give a damn.
Now in her late-eighties, the undisputed Oldest Lady of Punk recalls those heady days of DIY music, radical politics and scratch festivals through a series of true tales pulled from her handbag of memories – and told ‘over a cuppa by the Rayburn’. Born in a London workhouse, singer with The Bricks, star of a documentary film, key player at Elephant Fayre, Glastonbury and T In The Park, Viva has rubbed shoulders with rock ’n’ roll’s royalty and rascals.
Joined by a few creative old mates from Cornwall’s original punk scene, the show builds into an authentic collage of stories, music, memories and more.
