Belgium, August 1914 – The Great War has begun and it’s bath night at the Citadel of Liege. But before the Citadel’s commander can jump in the tub, there is a knock at the door.
An up-and-comer of the German Army, Major-General Erich Ludendorff is outside demanding he put on some clothes and surrender the fortress.
But when Ludendorff finds out the German Army has gone, his only hope is to bluff the commander into surrender. Unmoved, the commander and his men are ready to fight.
Except, it’s awfully quiet in the citadel and everyone who calls out from within sounds suspiciously like the commander. Is an elaborate performance going on behind the door?
Or does the commander really have ten thousand troops and a wife whose voice was damaged in a mule milking accident?
What lies ahead is a battle of wills between a man who lost an army and another pretending to be one.
A farcical verbal joust, Doomed Resistance is a play that asks – when is the time to fight and when is the time throw in your bath towel.
